Mushroom Propagation

Unknown Author

First one needs to select a suitable rock on which the cuttings will be placed on. I have found that smallish rocks are best.

Remove the rock that has the mushroom on from the water and allow the one that you wish to cut hang upside down. This will expose the stem, cut through the stem leaving a piece of the stem on the rock as it will regenerate.

Depending on the size of the coral cut it into 4 or 6 pieces. Now comes the tricky part as these pieces should be placed on the the rock and covered with netting or they can be placed in a shallow bowl containing coral pieces. There should be water movement around the cuttings but not too strong as to move the pieces.

After about a week the pieces should have adhered to the rock or coral. As time goes by they will resemble miniature clones of the ‘mother coral’. To assist growth chemical additives are needed, I use Iodide and Strontium once a week. There additives can be bought from your local pet store or they can be prepared from dry chemicals.

Welcome

Welcome to Scavo's Reef.

Here I will showcase my addiction to my ever-growing collection of fresh water and marine specimens.

There is little that separates humans from other sentient beings - we all feel pain, we all feel joy, we all deeply crave to be alive and to live freely, and we all share this planet together.
