Testament to a hobby

The hobby of reef keeping is one that has brought me a great deal of enjoyment for the 7 years that I have been involved with it. In reality it started 9 years ago with my first African Cichlid tank. After moving on to keeping marine specimens I became captivated. The diversity of life was countless as was the urge to learn more and more about the animals I was keeping.

In 2000 I met Moe Kirby, a Boston-based hobbyist who was attempting to a organize local reefkeepers for get-together to share ideas and trade livestock. Having a great deal of enthusiasm for the hobby, I joined Moe's efforts and along with a handful of local reefkeepers, organized and founded the "Boston Reefers Society.

This site is a testament to the hobby of reef keeping and aquaria in general. Please email me with any comments and/or suggestions.

I hope the site inspires you as much as the hobby has inspired me to create it. Enjoy your stay.

Premnas Biculeatus with E. Quadricolor
And so it begins... After 6 years of reefkeeping and what evolved into a fishroom in my basement (7 tanks), I am going to attempt consolidation. What better way to consolidate than to combine all my livestock into a 375 gallon aquarium, right? :) You can read my progress as document at the Boston Reefers Society here

Below you can watch a video of the 180 I just set up. I still have a few tweaks, but its almost there.

galaxia
A galaxia frag I purchased from Greg Hiller. The piece was propagated with a hammer and chisel!

Jessica and I snorkling in Aruba
My girlfriend and I in Aruba. It is this type of experience that led me to reef keeping as well as the pursuit of my diving license.

Welcome

Welcome to Scavo's Reef.

Here I will showcase my addiction to my ever-growing collection of fresh water and marine specimens.

There is little that separates humans from other sentient beings - we all feel pain, we all feel joy, we all deeply crave to be alive and to live freely, and we all share this planet together.
